HDES passes Mid-term review of the SBIC programme
15 november 2020On November 2021 HDES successfully passed the SBIC Mid-Term review of its ESA SBIC programme. During the meeting the progress in the development of Cool Gas Generators was presented. Both hardware progress as well as activities in the field of marketing and business development were reported. The SBIC activities are progressing well and HDES achieved most of its goals. The SBIC management was very pleased with the developments and it is expected that HDES will complete the SBIC programme. Therefore HDES passed the review very well and can progress to the last part of the SBIC programme. One of the […]
Read moreThe next generation of Cool Gas generators starts
20 juni 2020Early July 2020 a new project for advanced Cool Gas Generators was started at HDES. This project will study the feasibility of advanced Cool Gas Generator technologies like advanced filters, new formulations and new thermal protection concepts. The main aim is to: Explore CGG formulations for new gasses Investigate ideas and technologies for lighter and more compact CGG’s Investigate ideas and technologies to low the production costs of CGG and to facilitate large scale production of CGG’s. The study will take a year and will start with a broad search for new ideas, who will all be categorized and evaluated. […]
Read moreHDES starts EVE Oxygen generator project
20 februari 2020Supported by a grant of the Province of South Hollands, HDES, together with its partners Lecon Engineering BV and AOW Consultancy will start the development of the EVE and EVE.PRO oxygen generator. This development is planned to take 18 months. In this time the oxygen Cool Gas Generator products will be brought to a level that certfication trail can start with good confidence. The Oxygen generator is meant for acute help for patients with for example COPD but can also be used for emergency services to provide a simple, rugged and lightweight oxygen source. The work will built on the […]
Read moreHDES passes 100 days review in the SBIC
26 november 2019Since July 2019 HDES Service & Engineering has moved to the Space Business Incubation Centre of ESA in Noordwijk to be part of the Incubation programme. One of the first milestones in this programme was the 100 days review in which the progress in the development of Oxygen Cool Gas Generators was reviews. HDES is an active member of the SBIC community and is now also present on its webpage. https://www.sbicnoordwijk.nl/ This review was held on 18 November 2019 and was successfully passed. The development is well on track with the set-up of a small production facility and the first […]
Read moreHDES is developing space-proven gas generators for safety applications on earth
13 november 2019The SBIC website published an article on HDES and its, participation in the SBIC programme: https://www.sbicnoordwijk.nl/hdes-space-gas-generators-safety/ Custom work benches? Check. Ovens? Check. White lab coats? Check. Once in a while, we are welcoming businesses that need to make full use of our fab lab workspace. HDES (High Density Energy Storage) is one of those companies. In the SBIC building, this ESA BIC incubatee is producing Cool Gas Generators in their own little factory. The goal: commercialize the technology and bring it to market. So, what can you do with said generators? Well, think of replacing a small CO2 vessel that […]
Read moreProba 2 ten years in orbit, COGEX still going strong!
6 november 2019On the second of November 2019, at 1.50 hours, Proba 2 was in orbit for 10 years. The satellite is still active and functioning well despite that fact that it has outlasted its planned lifetime of 2 years 5 times. On board of the Proba 2 is the Cool Gas Generator (COGEX) experiment with 4 Cool Gas Generators. Each Cool Gas Generator has a capacity of 40 liters of nitrogen. The generators were produced in 2005 and delivered for assembly in the same year. This was the last time the builders saw the experiment and were able to maintain it. […]
Read moreHDES presence at the Proba-2 symposium in Redu
12 september 2019On 7 and 8 February a symposium for the PROBA satellites was organised in the ESA space centre in Redu. Berry Sanders, together with the other PROBA teams were invited to come to this symposium and attend various presentations about the research that was done on the PROBA satellites. The symposium was mainly on the PROBA 2 satellite, but there were also talks on the PROBA 1 and the future PROBA satellite’s. HDES manages the COGEX Cool Gas generator experiment on board of the Proba-2. The COGEX consist of 4 nitrogen cool gas generators of 40 normal litres of which […]
Read moreLow temperature Igniter project successfully completed
1 juli 2019In June 2018 the proposal for a feasibility study for an igniter that can operate on very low temperature was awarded by the province of South Holland and HDES Service & Engineering BV started studying different igniter configuration and forms. With the help of students of the Inholland University of Applied Sciences different igniter concepts were evaluated and a trade-off was made. In the end one concept was selected and experiments were conducted to prove its feasibility. This igniter concept will be used for future Cool Gas Generator designs. The study also allowed HDES to talk with many different potential […]
Read moreHDES Service & Engineering BV and the Noordwijk Space Business Incubator contract signature
1 juni 2019HDES Service & Engineering BV has bee selected, based on its business plan, by the European Space Agency and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs to be included in the ESA Space Business Incubator in Noordwijk (SBIC). The SBIC hosts space related companies and helps them to further develop and grow. Within the SBIC HDES will work on its Oxygen Cool Gas Generator technology and develop a first technology demonstrator. After that a first product development will start. The contract was signed in June and after signature the glass was raised on this new co-operation. In the picture below: Gert […]
Read moreVOLTA rocket motor development starts
21 december 2016A team consisting of T-minus Engineering from Delft and HDES initiative has been awarded a subsidy from the Province of Zuid Holland to start the development of the VOLTA rocket engine concept. The VOLTA enige is aimed at the fast growing small satellite market where it can be used to transfer satellites from their initial orbit after a cheap launch with multiple satellites to their operational orbit with aminiaml burden is cost and mass. It can also be used to efficiently de-orbit satellites at the end of their life. In VOLTA the HDES energy storage is used to heat up […]
